Kung Fu Panda 4 teams with Dune: Part Two for a strong weekend box office

Kung Fu Panda 4 topped the weekend box office with $58.3 million domestically. It was one of 3 new films in the top five. Internationally, the film grossed $22.2 million for a worldwide total of $80.5 million. In 2008, the first film debuted with $60.2 million and went on to gross $632.1 million worldwide. Kung Fu Panda 2 debuted with $47.7 million in 2011 and went on to gross $665.7 million worldwide. And, in 2016, Kung Fu Panda 3 debuted with $41.3 million and went on to gross $521.2 million. Overall, the fourth film’s opening seems solid and pretty expected based on past history.

Dune: Part Two slipped to second place in its second weekend dropping just 44.2%. The movie grossed $46 million domestically to bring that total to $157 million. Over the week, the film grossed $113.5 million internationally to bring that amount to $210.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $367.5 million.

Imaginary debuted in third place With $10 million domestically. No international number has been reported.

Cabrini was another debuted with premiered in fourth with an estimated $7.6 million domestically and a very specific $69 internationally for a worldwide debut of $7.6 million.

Bob Marley: One Love rounded out the top five with $4.1 million to bring its domestic total to $89.3 million. Internationally, the film grossed $7.9 million to bring that to $71.2 million and $160.5 million worldwide.

In comic film news…

Madame Web slipped to seventh place with $1.1 million to lift its domestic total to $42.6 million. Internationally, the film added $3.4 million to bring that to $54 million. The movie sits at a little over $96.6 million after four weeks.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Hashira Training dropped to eleventh. The film added $550,000 to its total over the weekend to bring its domestic gross to $17 million. Internationally, the film has added $6.2 million over the week to bring that to a little over $30.2 million. Worldwide the movie has grossed $47.3 million.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom added about $200,000 to its domestic total after debuting on HBO over the weekend. Domestically, the film now stands at $124.4 million. Internationally, the film remained at $309.9 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $434.3 million.

The week’s overall box office success…

Numbers have 36 films earning $135,360,806 from 31,157 theaters. That’s a bump from the previous weekend’s $114,552,520 from 34,408 theaters and 59 films. The average earning was $4,344.48 which is a nice increase from the previous weekend’s $3,329.24.
