A group of Funko Games, Prospero Hall, and Forrest-Pruzan Creative alumni have formed Tempest Workshop, a new full-service board game design and development studio based in Seattle, the company announced. Tempest Workshop Studio Director Chris Rowlands and Executive Producers Korby Sears and Isaias Vallejo are co-founders of the company.
Tempest Workshop creatives have collaborated on over 250 games, including the Villainous and Funkoverse franchises, two Choose Your Own Adventure games, and games tied to licensed properties Jurassic World, Jaws, Back to the Future, Goonies, and Disney Animated.
In addition to the three Co-Founders, graphic designers Tyler Hill and Thomas Ramey, game developers David Iezzi and Daniel Stoltenberg, artists Josh Manderville and Ernest Ziegenfelder, project manager Estefania Rodriguez, and community & development manager Stephanie Straw are listed as additional creatives with whom the company collaborates on a project-by-project basis.
The new company was formed as a result of staff cuts of about 25 people made as Goliath Games acquired the game assets of Funko, including game development studio Forrest-Pruzan Creative and board game design team Prospero Hall, in January (see “Goliath Acquires Funko Games“).
“We have a chance to build a brand new studio from the ground up that shares DNA with where we came from, but that also looks ahead with newfound vision and three core values; Being Human, Creating Together, and Having Moxie,” Rowlands said of the founding of the new company.
Tempest Workshop is offering third-party design and development services and also plans studio-owned works.
