A Magic: The Gathering deck stuffed with Cats can dominate in a range of format, spawning tokens and buffing life left and right. Below you’ll find the very best MTG Cat cards. These purr-fect pals can be played in a range of MTG formats, but all of them will slot nicely into an MTG Commander deck. They hail from a range of MTG sets, but many share the same core MTG colors.

These are the best MTG cats for a feline-themed deck:

1. Brimaz, King of Oreskos

For just three mana, Brimaz, King of Oreskos packs one heck of a punch. This kitty comes with Vigilance, as well as the ability to create a 1/1 Cat Soldier token whenever it attacks or blocks. Oh, and that token gets Vigilance too.

As a 3/4 creature, Brimaz is well-suited to both offense and defense. It’s not the most broken Cat card in MTG, but it remains a popular choice for white Commander and Pioneer decks. 

2. Pride Sovereign

Pride Sovereign starts out as a puny 2/2, but this card has the power to go big if left unchecked. Gaining a +1/+1 for every other Cat under your control, Pride Sovereign becomes more kingly with every token you spawn.

If you pay one white mana, tap the card, and exert Pride Sovereign, it can even make two 1/1 Cat tokens all by itself. These come with Lifelink as well – what a pretty kitty. 

3. Arahbo, Roar of the World

Arahbo, Roar of the World is one of the best MTG Commanders for a cat-themed deck. This 5/5 legendary creature comes with the Eminence keyword, which gives another Cat a temporary +3/+3 if Arahbo is in the Command Zone or on the battlefield at the start of your turn.

Any time a Cat attacks on your behalf, you can also pay three mana (1 colorless, one green, one white) to give it Trample and +X/+X for the rest of the turn. X is equal to the Cat’s existing power – that sudden doubling can be very handy. 

4. Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist

Another popular (but cheaper, mana-wise) Commander is Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist. But even if you don’t plan to let Mirrir command your combat-happy kittens, the card is a welcome addition to any Cat deck. Mirri’s a 3/2 legendary with First Strike that limits opponents to just one blocker any time it attacks.

The card also offers some useful defense options. If you tap Mirri instead of sending her to combat, your opponents can only attack with one creature. Keep her tapped, and that bottleneck stays in place. 

5. Regal Caracal

Regal Caracal may be expensive to cast, but the card gives +1/+1 and Lifelink to every other Cat under your control. Play this card at the perfect time, and the payoff is more than worth it.

Even if there are no Cats on the board, Regal Caracal creates two 1/1 Cat tokens the moment that it enters the battlefield. Pair this up with Pride Sovereign, and you’ve got a feline alliance that will buff each other, ready for battle. 

6. Qasali Slingers

Cats aren’t always known for their removal powers, but Qasali Slingers is a welcome exception to that rule. Whenever this card or another Cat enters the battlefield under your control, Qasali Slingers lets you destroy an artifact or enchantment. The 3/5 also has Reach to keep you well-defended.

It’s not the beefiest card for your green Commander deck, sure. But its synergy with other Cats and unique ability makes it a solid staple. 

7. Felidar Sovereign

Plenty of Cats come with Lifelink, and Felidar Sovereign is designed to take full advantage of that fact. This costly card gets its value from an alternate win condition. Step one: play Felidar Sovereign. Step two: have 40 or more life at the start of your upkeep. Step three: win the game.

Felidar Sovereign is also a beefy 4/6 with Vigilance and Lifelink. This’ll help keep the pressure on your opponents while you work towards that crucial life score. 

8. Rin and Seri, Inseparable

Rin and Seri, Inseparable is the star of the MTG Secret Lair Commander deck, Raining Cats & Dogs. You’ll mostly find this fuzzy pair taking the lead in Commander. Any time you cast a Cat or Dog spell, the card creates a Cat or Dog token – so it helps to have furry friends of both kinds in your deck.

As well as token generation, Rin and Seri can deal direct damage. Simply tap the card and pay three mana (one red, one green, one white). The damage can be dealt to any target, and it equals the number of Dogs you control. You then gain life equal to the number of Cats you control, so balance is everything. 

9. Kaheera, the Orphanguard

If you’re fully committed to an all-Cats deck, Kaheera, the Orphanguard is worth picking up. As long as every card in your starting deck belongs to a certain type (Cats included), you can cast Kaheera as a Companion card from outside of the game.

Kaheera gives every other Cat under your control a +1/+1 and Vigilance. This 3/2 Legendary also comes with the Vigilance keyword – though you’re mainly playing it for what it can do to your other Cats. 

10. Qasali Pridemage

A cheap and cheerful 2/2, Qasali Pridemage benefits from being played on an empty battlefield. The card’s Exalted keyword means any creature attacking alone gets a +1/+1 until the end of turn. And, like its Qasali brethren, the Pridemage can destroy an artifact or enchantment if you pay one colorless mana and sacrifice your card.

If Qasali Slingers is looking a bit too expensive, Qasali Pridemage can offer some of the same utility. It lacks the defense and punching power of its counterpart, but for a turn two play, Pridemage is pretty potent.
