Silver Sprocket has announced a new edition of When I Arrived at the Castle, an erotic thriller by Eisner Award-winning creator Emily Carroll that was originally published by Koyama Press in 2019. The graphic novel draws on fairy tales and classic gothic horror with the story of a traveler who enters the castle of a villainous Countess and finds herself in a literal house of horrors. The artwork is intricately drawn in black and white and blood red, with a style that veers from classic horror comics to surrealism. Silver Sprocket will publish the book on April 10, 2024, with a new cover with foil accents; the 72-page paperback will have an MSRP of $16.99.
Carroll has won numerous awards, including the 2015 Eisner Awards for Best Graphic Album—Reprint, for Through the Woods, and Best Short Story, for “When the Darkness Presses.” She also was the artist for the graphic adaptation of Laurie Halse Anderson’s YA novel Speak (see “Winter Titles from First Second”).
When it was first published, the book was one of the top selling titles in the Author category (see “April 2019 NPD BookScan”).
