IDW will publish the final issue of its flagship Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series on April 10, 2024. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #150, by writer Sophie Campbell, artist Vincenzo Federici, and colorist Ronda Pattison will be a double-sized issue with 68 pages of story and an MSRP of $9.99. Campbell will also contribute art to the final issue, as will former TMNT artists Dan Duncan and Fero Pe. The milestone issue will have variant covers by Federici, Campbell and TMNT creator Kevin Eastman, and Dan Duncan, as well as a wraparound cover by Jesse Lonergan and a 1:50 black and white variant of Campbell and Eastman’s cover.
Although IDW is bringing this series to an end, they recently renewed their agreement with Paramount for the franchise (see “IDW, Paramount, Renew ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Contract”), which will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year, and more TMNT comics are in the works. The hardcover collection Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin has been a best-seller since it was released in 2022 (see “Top Superhero Graphic Novel Franchises – Spring 2023”), and both it and the spinoff Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin—Lost Years, released in November 2023, have been on the BookScan top 20 for the past two months (see “December 2023 Circana BookScan”).
In a statement accompanying the announcement, Campbell revealed she is leaving the Turtles for now, saying “The fact that this chapter is ending and I’m leaving the series is bittersweet, I’ll miss it for sure but it’s time to move on and let somebody else have a shot at the Turtles, and I’ll be back for more before you know it, whatever form that might take.”
Added Eastman, “For me, the IDW TMNT Comic Book Universe is a definitive one… This wonderful place has been our collective ‘home’ for the past 12 years, and although we may see a ‘conclusion,’ after 40 years of adventures, we won’t see an end.”
