I have a soft spot for Chun-Li because she was my main fighter back when I started playing Street Fighter and couldn’t do any of the special moves. She was quick enough and powerful enough that I could still land blows occasionally on my more experienced friends. Needless to say I’ve been looking forward to this one. Let’s take a look at the Jada Toys Chun-Li!
I’m not a packaging collector, but this one is pretty fun with the arcade shape and classic Chun-Li stage insert. I also like that they include a cross-sell, plus you can use the challenger blocks on the back as a handy dandy little checklist as the line progresses.
Chun-Li comes with two heads, two sets of hands, a power effect, and a stand for that effect. The stand has two hinges, looks like the one that comes with Ryu, and can plug into the lightning kick effect piece to assist with balance. The foot slides into any of the three prongs of the kick effect so you can place those kicks higher or lower as you like.
The angry head works pretty well as regular aggression or more specifically like she’s making her “yop yop yop!” sound during a lightning kick.
The hands are chop or fist, swap easily, and work well for a wide variety of Chun-Li appropriate poses.
The Sculpting is very nice and captures the art style of Street Fighter II very well. I think they tastefully portray her exaggerated physique and the articulation is well integrated into the design.
I especially like the bit of clothing texture they added to the blue part of the outfit. It makes for a nice contrast to the smooth legs and arms.
The articulation is quite extraordinary in that her ball and socket waist and mid-torso actually get great range of movement. Most companies that use this joint get crap for movement out of it. Her legs also move very well considering the thickness and I think this is down to the lower torso piece being a softer plastic. Chun-Li has:
- Swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, thighs, and ankles
- Double hinged knees and elbows
- Ball and socket head, mid-torso, and waist
- Hinged lower neck
- Swivel thighs, biceps, and boots
Paint is solid, but not too flashy as I’m not seeing any washes or drybrush, but the separations are clean for the most part. I did see some yellow slop on the legs of my figure from the dress detail paint.
Overall, this is a solid and super fun figure. She does feel a little light on the accessories compared to other Street Fighter lines on the market, but the price is also much lower here and I think what she has is all useful. She’s a nice contrast to the bulkier Fei Long and Ryu and the collection is shaping up nicely so I can’t wait to add wave two.
