The Nun II repeats in first as A Haunting in Venice scares up second

The Nun II

It’s spooky season and horror films seem to be doing well at the box office. The Nun II was in first place this past weekend, a repeat, not something that’s common with horror films. It dropped just 54.8% from the previous weekend grossing an estimated $14.73 million to bring its domestic gross to $56.5 million. Over the week, it grossed $49.6 million internationally to bring that to $102.3 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $158.8 million after two weeks. The original grossed $365.6 million worldwide in 2018.

In second place was A Haunting in Venice which opened with $14.5 million domestically and $22.7 million internationally for $37.2 million worldwide.

The Equalizer 3 slipped one spot to come in third with an estimated $7.2 million. Its gross after three weeks is about $73.7 million. Internationally, the movie grossed $12.9 million over the week to bring that to $58.7 million an $132.4 million worldwide.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 dropped one spot to fourth with an estimated $4.7 million at the domestic box office. The film has grossed just $18.6 million after two weeks showing this franchise is pretty much dead. Internationally it’s not doing much better with just $2.6 million over the week to bring that total to $5.3 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed just $23.9 million.

Barbie held steady in fifth place with just under $4 million domestically to bring its total to $626.1 million. Over the week, it grossed $8.4 million internationally to bring that to $790.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $1.417 billion. It’s the top grossing film for 2023 by far domestically and worldwide. The movie is currently #14 in all-time worldwide gross and there’s a good chance it has enough left to gross the $37 million it needs to pass Frozen II. Domestically, it’s #11 having passed The Avengers though it’ll need $27 million to pass Jurassic World. There’s a good chance that might happen before its run is over.

In comic film news…

Blue Beetle came in at #7 with $2.5 million. Domestically, ti has now grossed $67.3 million. Internationally it added $2.3 million to the gross bringing that to $52.6 million. The movie has grossed $119.9 million worldwide.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem came in at #10 grossing $2 million domestically bringing its domestic total to $114.1 million. Internationally, the movie added $3.1 million where it has now grossed $53.1 million. Worldwide, the movie has brought in $167.2 million.

Shortcomings, based on the graphic novel by Adrian Tomine grossed about $4,150 over the week domestically to bring its total to $664,841. There’s now some international gross reported of $6,159. Worldwide, the film has grossed $671,000.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse looks like it remained steady domestically at $381.3 million. Internationally, the film gained about $100,000 to bring that to $308.5 million. Worldwide, the move has grossed $689.8 million.

The week’s overall box office success…

Numbers have 33 films earning $62,082,115 from 34,168 theaters. That’s about a dip of a quarter from last weekend’s $88,369,972 from 36,811 theaters and 56 films. The average earning was $1,818.97 this past weekend, again, about a quarter less than the previous weekend’s $2,400.64.
