Headed into the Memorial Day weekend, the showbiz news is still coming in. It’s time for a round-up!
Universal Pictures released a teaser trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s (see below), a new movie based on the popular media franchise, starring Josh Hucherson, Matthew Lillard, and Mary Stuart Masterson. It’s currently in post-production and will hit theaters on October 27, 2023 (see “2023“).
Netflix has released a teaser for Nimona, the animated feature based on ND Stevenson’s bestselling graphic novel. The film was originally slated for a theatrical release in 2021, but canceled as Disney shut down Fox’s Blue Sky Studios in April of 2021 (see “Disney Cancels ‘Nimona’“), and subsequently picked up by Netflix (see “’Nimona’ at Netflix“). The cast includes Choe Grace Moretz as Nimona, Riz Ahmed as Ballister Boldheart, and Eugene Lee Yang as Ambrosius Goldenloin.
Marvel Studios revealed more casting for Deadpool 3, according to Deadline. Brianna Hildebrand and Shioli Kutsuna, who played Warhead and Yukio in Deadpool 2 (see “‘Deadpool 2’ Casting“), will make their return in the new movie. Marvel Studios previously revealed that Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine in this movie as well (see “Wolverine in ‘Deadpool 3’“).
Marvel Studios announced Disney+ streaming dates for Loki Season 2 and the Echo series. The new episodes of Loki Season 2 will start streaming on October 6, 2023. Echo, which was first announced back in 2021 (see “‘Echo’ Series“), will have all its episodes available for streaming on November 29, 2023.
Disney+ has secured the rights to stream all of Indiana Jones movies and series. These will be available for Disney+ subscribers on May 31, 2023, just in time for fans to catch up before the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny on June 30, 2023 (see “‘Indiana Jones’ Trailers “).
Eddie Murphy is investigating the possibility of becoming Inspector Clouseau in a new Pink Panther movie, according to Deadline. Amazon Studios had previously expressed interest in rebooting the MGM franchise (see “‘Pink Panther’“), and Murphy, who did Coming 2 America for Prime Video, may be a good fit for the role. If he gets the role, he will follow comedy greats Steve Martin and Peter Sellers who played the dim-witted detective in earlier Pink Panther movies.
