Both Power Girl and the superhero team Fire & Ice will get their own standalone series from DC Comics in September, as part of the Dawn of DC program (see “DC Launches ‘Dawn of DC’”). The one-shot Power Girl Special #1, by Leah Williams and Marguerite Sauvage, will lay the groundwork: In the main story, Power Girl has new powers and faces a new challenge; a backup story by Joanne Starer and Natacha Bustos follows Fire & Ice as they contend with a disaster in Baltimore as well as the return of an old flame. Power Girl Special #1 is due out on May 30, 2023.
The new Power Girl series will be written by Williams with art by Eduardo Pansica and the opening story arc follows the summer Knight Terrors event; one of the consequences is that Superman thinks Power Girl is his mortal enemy. The first issue is due out on September 5.
Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville starts with the former Justice League members dispatched to Smallville to live in obscurity after the disastrous events in Baltimore. Ice is happy to chill in the sticks, but Fire is itching to get back to superhero-ing. The series will have the same creative team as the backup story, Starer and Bustos, and the first issue will be released on September 5.
