March has roared in, and Hollywood news is shaping up for spring. Time for a round-up!
Paramount announced that Star Trek: Discovery will be ending with Season 5. The series, starring Sonequa Martin-Green, began in 2017 (see “‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Premiere Date Revealed“), and will wrap up in 2024.
Clancy Brown was recently cast in The Penguin, according to Variety. He is best known for his work in The Shawshank Redemption, Highlander, Starship Troopers, and as the voice of Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob SquarePants. Brown will assume the role of Gotham crime boss Salvatore Maroni, joining a cast which includes lead Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell. This series was scheduled to begin filming this year (see “‘The Penguin’ Deets“).
Millennium Media has cast Jack Kesy as the new Hellboy for their upcoming Hellboy: The Crooked Man movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kesy had briefly appeared in another comic-based movie, as Black Tom from Deadpool 2. Hellboy: The Crooked Man is scheduled to start production this month in Bulgaria (see “‘Hellboy’ Reboot to Production“).
Karan Soni, has been cast to voice Spider-Man India in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Like Kesy, Soni is another Deadpool movie alum who played Dopinder the taxi driver in the two movies (see “‘Deadpool 2’ Casting Updates“).
MRC, James Wan’s Atomic Monster, and 3 Arts have struck a deal with Pornsak Pichetshote to develop The Good Asian into a series, according to Deadline. Set in 1936 Chinatown, The Good Asian is a noir comic that was published by Image Comics and won Book of the Year at the 2022 Harvey Awards (see “‘The Good Asian’ Win Harvey Awards“).
Composition Media will adapt Catapult Feud into an animated series. Catapult Feud is a castle defense board game by Vesuvius Media that was published into the U.S. by Iello USA in 2021 (see “‘Catapult Feud’“). Carl Reed, co-founder of Lion Forge Animation and Composition Media, will lead the development of this series.
