New Omnibus Collects John Byrne’s ‘X-Men: The Hidden Years’

Marvel will publish the entire run of John Byrne’s X-Men: The Hidden Years as a 624-page hardcover omnibus that will collect X-Men: The Hidden Years #1-22, Fantastic Four (1961) #102-104, and material from X-Men (1991) #94 and Amazing Adult Fantasy #14. The collection will go on sale on October 3, 2023, with two covers by Byrne, one for general trade and one exclusive to the direct market, and an MSRP of $100.

The series was written, penciled, and lettered by Byrne, with inking by Tom Palmer (see “R.I.P. Tom Palmer, Sr.”) and coloring by Gregory Wright. It was originally conceived as a bridge between the first X-Men run, which ended with reprints of older issues in 1970, and the new one that began in 1975 with Giant-Size X-Men #1. The story follows the original X-Men cast as they explore the Savage Land in search of Magneto, and handle a variety of familiar villains, including the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. The series ended prematurely with issue #22, which led into a crossover with the Fantastic Four.
