Black Adam boosts the weekend box office with a strong performance

Black Adam

Black Adam exceeded expectations and gave the box office a much needed juice. The film opened with a reported $67 million, a bit higher than initial predictions. The film also earned an estimated $73 million at the international box office to deliver a worldwide opening of $140 million.

That opening is better than Shazam! which saw $53.5 million its first weekend domestically, The Suicide Squad‘s $26 million opening, and Wonder Woman 1984‘s $16.7 million. The latter two also opened during the pandemic.

While the film’s critical reviews have been rather negative, the audience has been much more forgiving with a generally positive though mixed response. With another two weeks before Blakc Panther: Wakanda Forever hits the box office, the film should have a decent run.

In second place was a bit of counter programming, Ticket to Paradise. The movie opened with $16.3 million domestically. It already opened internationally where it has scored $80.3 million after two weeks. Worldwide, the film has grossed $96.6 million.

Smile slipped one spot to third place adding $8.4 million to its total. It has now grossed $84.3 million domestically. Over the week, the film added $15.5 million to its international total to bring that to $81.9 million Worldwide, the film has grossed $166.2 million.

Over the week, the film added about $10.6 million to its international total to bring that to $27.8 million. The film has grossed a little over $82 million after two weeks.
