Trio of ‘Root’ Expansions Coming

Leder Games revealed plans for three new expansions for Root at the recent ACD Games Day:  The Marauder Expansion, The Clockwork Expansion 2, and the Hireling Box.  Clay Capra from Leder Games shared some details with ICv2 about the upcoming releases, launching in September.

Root:  The Marauder Expansion will introduce two new factions to the game.  The Lord of the Hundreds is a horde of aggressive but moody rats, willing to burn the Woodland down to further their plans.  The Keepers in Iron are a group of armored badgers devoted to collecting various relics scattered around the forest.

The expansion also offers four sets of hireling mini-factions, with Marquise, Eyrie, Alliance, and Vagabond groups.  Requires the core game to play.  MSRP is $50.00.

The Clockwork Expansion 2 provides players an opportunity to compete against four faction “bots” that are automated by the game system:  Logical Lizards, Riverfolk Robots, Cogwheel Corvids, and Drillbit Duchy.  They can be added to games with fewer players or combined to create a cooperative game.  Each bot features four levels of difficulty as well as different trait cards with different abilities.

A new “Better Bot” card for each faction in the original Clockwork Expansion is also included, but Clockwork Expansion 2 does not require the earlier expansion to play.  It does require the core game and either or both of the Riverfolk Expansion and The Underworld Expansion.  MSRP is $40.00.

The Root:  Hireling Box provides new mini-factions for use with the game.  These hireling factions can change control between players during the game or can be used for more options in two-player games.  The base game is required for use.  MSRP is $30.00.

Root continues to be a popular title for Leder Games, ranking fifth on ICv2’s list of top-selling board games last fall (see “Top Hobby Channel Board Games – Fall 2021”).
