Oswalt and Blum to Launch Creator-Owned Miniseries, ‘Minor Threats’

Comedians Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum, the showrunners of Hulu’s M.O.D.O.K. series (see “Meet the M.O.D.O.K.s”), are teaming up with artist Scott Hepburn (M.O.D.O.K.: Head Games) for a creator-owned miniseries, Minor Threats, to be published by Dark Horse starting in August. The story follows a group of small-time villains who are caught in the middle after the supervillain Stickman kills the sidekick of Twilight City’s main superhero, The Insomniac. The Insomniac and his teammates go on a rampage, making the villains’ lives miserable, until the villains decide to work together to take down the Stickman themselves. The first issue of the four-issue miniseries will be released on August 24 with a main cover and foil variant by Hepburn as well as another variant by Mike Mignola and Dave Stewart.

“This is our love letter to superhero comics and crime fiction,” said Blum in a statement accompanying the announcement. “An underdog story of inept costumed criminals in over their heads, trying to survive an unforgiving city filled with caped gods, fallen kaiju, and traffic causing time vortexes. Everyday crooks in a fantastical world trying to get theirs.”

“Every comic book fan dreams of creating their own universe,” said Oswalt. “This one is mine and Jordan’s. There is fun and danger and violence and sadness just like in real life, but with WAY brighter colors. I can’t wait to see you guys experience it.”
