The action in Tom King and Greg Smallwood’s The Human Target kicks off when main character Christopher Chance drinks some poison. But what happened before that? DC has some answers in Tales of the Human Target, a 48-page comics anthology that will contain four interlocking mystery stories, each starring Chance and a different member of Justice League International, one of whom may have slipped Chance the fatal dose. King is the writer for the project, and artists Rafael Albuquerque, Mikel Janin, and Kevin Maguire will join Smallwood for the anthology. Tales of the Human Target will go on sale on August 23 with a main cover by Smallwood, a variant by David Marquez (Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, Batman: Killing Time, Justice League) and a 1 in 25 ratio variant cover from Jorge Jiménez, who is returning to Batman as the artist for that series with Batman #125.
DC also announced that The Human Target Book One, collecting The Human Target #1-6, will be released on September 13. The series will resume with issue #7 on September 23.
