With the global game industry gradually whirring back into life after the interminable delays, problems, and cancellations of the Covid-19 pandemic, we’re finally starting to see gaming events pop back up to fill our calendars – enter W.A.S.D, the new kid on the game industry block. W.A.S.D is a brand new consumer show happening in London’s Tobacco Dock on April 7-9 this year, aiming to showcase and celebrate videogames both big and small (with just a dash of tabletop thrown in).
According to David Lilley – founder of Roucan, the event’s organiser – a big focus of W.A.S.D will be putting games from independent developers and publishers on an even keel with big budget titles from household-name companies. In an interview with our sister website PCGamesN (the show’s official media partner), Lilley said W.A.S.D was “giving indies a platform from which to promote themselves and their games”, while giving “equal weighting” to offerings from AAA publishers.
Specifically, the event’s ‘W.A.S.D Curios‘ section is giving 12 indie studios the space to show off their games for free (some of them “at the very beginning of their lives”). Why should you come as a guest? With dozens of titles available to try out at the show (not to mention panel discussions and more), Lilley says “Gamers can discover their new favourite thing” at W.A.S.D 2022.
