Udon Entertainment has outlined an aggressive publishing program for the manga series Summertime Rendering: They will publish the first three volumes in hardcover simultaneously in May and the second three in July. Udon is also releasing the series in softcover on a monthly schedule, starting in May. The first three hardcover volumes will be released on May 18 with an MSRP of $24.99 for Vols.1 and 3 and $19.99 for Vol.2. The first paperback will also be available on May 18 with an MSRP of $19.99. It appears that all volumes are being released to the direct market two weeks ahead of the book channel.
The series, by Yasuki Tanaka, was originally published as 13 volumes in Japan, but Udon is collecting it into six omnibus volumes. The story is a supernatural mystery about a young man who returns to his hometown on a remote island for a friend’s funeral and quickly realizes something is amiss; there’s also a time-travel aspect to the story. The series, which ran in the digital Shonen Jump + magazine in Japan, was published digitally in English on the Manga Plus website. For the print edition, Udon has commissioned a new translation and new lettering.
The Summertime Rendering anime is set to premiere on Disney+ and other platforms in April 2022 (see “Udon Licenses ‘Summertime Rendering’ Manga”). The first volume was one of ICv2’s Manga Pick Hits (see “Manga Pick Hits – May 2022”).
