Boss Fight Studio has been diversifying their portfolio in terms of properties and executions, and I have to say, the Mystery Mascaras from Legends of Lucha Libre is one of the cooler series going right now, especially if you are a Lucha fan.
The tradition of Lucha Libre is a fascinating to me, and it is cool to see the good folks at Boss Fight Studio bring it to a variety of executions. Obviously, our main wheelhouse here is action figures, but after the wrestlers themselves, the masks are some of the most important and iconic symbols of the promotion. I mean, you don’t really have Lucha Libre without those striking and intricate masks, right?
That is why I find these Mystery Mascara offerings so interesting and intriguing. The action figures really pay tribute to the wrestlers themselves, but these isolate the masks, and present them at a larger (but still manageable) scale so you can really appreciate the ornate details that help define each of the characters. This is done, of course, with all of the detail and skill you expect from Boss Fight, but it gives them an avenue to flex their creative muscles unlike anything else.
This first series of Mystery Mascaras highlights six Luchas, and gives us two mask variations for each. The masks are made of plastic and presented on plain black busts with a simple identifying placard so that the focus remains on the masks themselves. The are removable, and I would put their size in-between 1:10 and 1:6 scale, maybe around 1:8 or so, so those details really come out, but you can also integrate them into a larger display. They are presented in blind box fashion, and each PDQ of 18 will get you one of each of the variations, plus a few extras. You can order the case directly from BFS, or from your favorite online shop like BBTS.
We have some pictures below, but this is the type of thing that really needs to be seen in person to do them justice, so I really recommend trying out a random blind box – none of them will disappoint. I promise, you will quickly hooked.
