Niantic has announced a new event for Pokémon GO. Read on below to learn more:

Happy 2020 from Slowpoke! Wait, no—it’s about to be 2022! Why is Slowpoke still wearing those glasses? At least Slowking got the memo! That’s right—our New Year’s celebration event is right around the corner! Look forward to Pokémon wearing new costumes, themed avatar items, the return of some familiar Pokémon wearing party hats, and a certain Shiny Pokémon will be appearing for the first time in Pokémon GO.

The Season of Heritage Story Continues!
Following the gift exchange, Spark decides to throw a party to celebrate and bring in the New Year!
Nearby Pokémon are intrigued by the festivities and drawn in to celebrate!

Fireworks!
To help bring in the new year, fireworks will appear in Pokémon GO from Friday, December 31, 2021, at 11:00 p.m. local time to Sunday, January 2, 2022, at 12:00 a.m. local time.

To celebrate the New Year, you’ll be able to complete Timed Research featuring Pokémon appearing during this event.
Complete the research tasks to encounter various costumed Pokémon!
Costumed Pokémon
You’ll be able to encounter costumed Pokémon! New Year’s Hat Hoothoot and 2022 Glasses Slowking make their debut! Also, for the first time in Pokémon GO, you’ll be able to encounter a Shiny Hoothoot, if you’re lucky! You’ll be able to encounter noncostumed Shiny Hoothoot after the event ends.

You’ll also be able to get New Year’s–themed stickers by spinning PokéStops, opening Gifts, and purchasing them from the in-game shop.
