Sexy Robots Return to ‘Heavy Metal’

Artist Hajime Sorayama, whose artwork of a female android posing like an artist’s model in a red sheet graced the cover of the November 1980 issue of Heavy Metal, is returning to contribute three covers to Heavy MetalMagazine #312.

All three editions feature shiny metal female androids in different poses. The interior of the magazine includes “uncensored” versions of the art along with a profile of Sorayama written by Heavy Metal publisher and CCO David Erwin. The magazines are available now and have an MSRP of $13.99.

Sorayama began his “Sexy Robot” series in 1978. It includes the cover he did for Aerosmith’s 2001 album Just Push Play as well as a 39-foot-high sculpture he created for Dior’s 2019 fashion show in Tokyo.

Heavy Metal Magazine and the rock band Evanescence recently teamed up to release Echoes from the Void, a five-issue limited anthology published under their Opus imprint (see “‘Echoes from the Void’“).
