“Winter is coming.” That’s the motto of House Stark, and with winter comes a slew of seasonal offers on your favourite board games (although we’re not sure how readily the Wardens of the North were stocking up on Catan in their decades-long cold snaps). Still, fans of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series will be pretty happy this Cyber Monday, because A Game of Thrones: The Board game is now 57% off on Amazon in the last of the Cyber Week deals, bringing the price down to just $27.99.
In this game, you’ll take control of one of the Great Houses – Baratheon, Greyjoy, Lannister, Martell, Stark or Tyrell – as they battle for control of Westeros. Each player’s goal is to amass the most cities and strongholds, from which you can then take the Iron Throne, and rule the entire continent.
Players take it in turns to draw Westeros card – which can affect various happenings on the board – then decide what you want to do with your units. You can choose to send them to raid an opponent’s stronghold, defend the regions you already occupy, or carry out several other commands. It’s very much a strategy board game and you can have a lot of fun by approaching it in different ways, as different Great Houses.
This version is the 2011 second edition of the game, which has a few nifty benefits over the original – most notably incorporating all of the new elements introduced in the A Clash of Kings expansion.
This includes the addition of House Martell (absent from the original); incorporating more regions to the game’s map to accommodate the extra House; enhanced artwork on the game’s House cards; and a few minor tweaks to the gameplay to help make this a more enjoyable experience for all players.
If you know somebody who loves Game of Thrones, or even just somebody who enjoys epic fantasy, board games, and epic fantasy board games – trust us when we say this’d make a cracking Christmas present for them.
As this is a Cyber Monday Deal of the Day, you’ll only have until the end of the day to scoop the game at 57% off. If you want to see more deals like this one, check out our Cyber Monday board game deals guide.
