D&D: Critical Role Announces Campaign 3 – October 21st

Critical Role has announced the start of their long-awaited Campaign 3 on October 21st. Here’s what we know so far!

It’s Thursday yet for Critters everywhere, as Critical Role officially announced the launch date for Campaign 3–and its happening sooner than folks thought. The new campaign will kick off Thursday, October 21 at 7PM Pacific.

The launch of this campaign will be bigger than ever. Last Campaign, we had the meme-worthy billboards and 80s-style ads to usher in a tale of heroic adventure in and around Wildemount.

But thatbwas in 2018. Long before an eleven-million dollar Kickstarter Campaign and an animated special. The group of friends just paying D&D has come a long way since then. And it’s made all the clearer with the kickoff for Campaign 3, which will launch not just on Twitch and YouTube, but on the big screen. According to their announcement,  Critical Role has partnered with Cinemark Theatres to simulcast the live premiere episode of Campaign 3 in 20 cities nationwide. As far as what will happen in Campaign 3? Here’s what we know so far:

Campaign 3 will introduce a fresh band of adventurers coming together in Marquet, located in the world of Exandria, with the story taking place chronologically after the events of Exandria Unlimited and also after Critical Role’s second campaign, which followed the Mighty Nein. Along with cast members Matthew Mercer (Overwatch), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Marisha Ray (Final Fantasy XV), Taliesin Jaffe (Final Fantasy XIV), Travis Willingham (Marvel’s Avengers), Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part II), and Liam O’Brien (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), expect to see some new faces throughout Campaign 3.

Marquet, if you’re unfamiliar, is a region in the southern part of the world. It was once a lush and verdant land, but a magical cataclysm left it a desert of ash and sand hundreds of years ago. In the ensuing time, civilization and wilderness have clashed in interesting ways there.

It was once ruled by a mighty red dragon. Has been home to secret cultists who brought about the eventual banishment of the demigod Uk’otoa. And it’s home to the Smouldercrown Mountains, a volcanic range seen in Campaign 1 when the members of Vox Machina were chasing Remnants.

It sounds like the tradition of having voice actor and other nerdy guest stars is going to continue unchanged, surprising no one. Previous guest appearances have included Felicia Day, Will Friedle, Mica Burton, Wil Wheaton, Deborah Ann Woll, Khary Payton, Sumalee Montano, and more.

Though this new campaign is not without some changes. The game will still be streamed on Twitch and YouTube every Thursday, but Campaign 3 will be prerecorded. It’ll be filmed ahead of time, on a new set designed by the Critical Role team. They also said they’d be taking the last Thursday of each month off. They’ll still be steaming, it just won’t be the main Campaign. Additionally, this Campaign will feature “new storytellers”, continuing the steps begun in Exandria Unlimited, which is an exciting step for Critical Role as they invite new faces to the table.

And not long after the release of Campaign 3, you’ll get to see a behind the scenes glimpse of the all new set. You’ll also get to check out a deep dive lore video that will take you inside the world of Exandria if you’re new to the series.

All of this is coming October 21. Per usual, Campaign 3 will air Thursday evenings at 7pm Pacific on Critical Role’s Twitch (twitch.tv/criticalrole) and YouTube (youtube.com/criticalrole) channels. If you’re a Twitch subscriber, you can watch the recorded livestream immediately, otherwise you have to wait until noon the following Monday. Or you can wait a week and podcast the whole thing from your favorite podcast app.

How do you wanna do Campaign 3?
