It’s been a while since I’ve watched Age of Ultron, but I do remember enjoying the MCU version of Quicksilver and being disappointed they killed him off in a bit of a cutesy swerve moment for shock value. I wish he could have stuck around longer, so this was an easy pre-order. Let’s take a look and MCU Quicksilver!
The box does the job of displaying the figure and protecting it from damage adequately.
Quicksilver comes with two sets of hands and three pieces of a wrecked Ultron drone. The Drone pieces have some sharp sculpting and great metallic paint and would be a nice addition to an MCU display or diorama. I only hope the Legends team would one day give us that Drone army builder figure.
The alternate hands are fists and a two-fingered salute. The fists are great, but I’m not as sure about the salute fingers. Like I said, it has been a while since I watched the movie, but I don’t remember him gesturing like this. I’m sure that’s more my problem than Hasbro’s, but my memory of Pietro running was open hands, so I would have preferred that. Grip hands would be nice so he could tear up drones or hold the drone parts.
I think the sculpting here is excellent, particularly the body with the nice shirt texture detail, realistic clothing wrinkles and great proportions on the MCU version of the super-heroic build. I can see the likeness in the head from certain angles, but sometimes I lose it. I think the beard gets in the way a bit as it is sculpted a little bit more full than his beard in the movie.
Articulation is also really nice. He’s got some great range of motion at the barbell ball neck and mid-torso joints. I love that they added the notch in the back of the neck so that he can look up for better running poses and the addition of drop-down hips are always appreciated. Quicksilver has:
- Swivel/hinge shoulders, hips, wrists, and ankles
- Swivel waist, thighs, and biceps
- Double hinged knees and elbows
- Ball and socket mid-torso and head
- Drop-down hips
Paint is solid with clean applications on the uniform and shoes and a good face print, but I don’t think his full beard should have been gray like this. I like the drybrushing on the hair, but it looks a little clumpy on my figure.
Overall, this is a pretty fun figure of a long overdue character and made me want to go back and re-watch Age of Ultron. I honestly thought I had a Scarlett Witch figure from Age of Ultron, but I don’t, so I kind of want a new figure for her from this film too along with the Ultron drone army builder.
